Skiathos is an ideal island for families, friends and lovers.

The name of Skiathos is rumored to come from the words “shadow” and “Athos”, as the island is geographically-and metaphorically – in the shadow of Mount Athos.

Morning, day and night our beloved town hums with life. Get lost in the small alleys of Papadiamantis street, as you witness the blue and white stone façade of our historical architecture. Famous for its natural surrounding landscapes, Skiathos island is composed of breathtaking beaches, mouthwatering Greek cuisine, and beaming nightlife. In Skiathos town you will be able to find beautiful places to visit, whether you choose to enjoy a “frappe” by the port or lunch at a traditional taverna, take a minute to appreciate the essence of the coastline.

What to see and where to go?

  • Consider our recommendation:

Bourtzi: A small pine-covered peninsula, which has been transformed into a place of recreation and entertainment. Only certain parts of the walls survived the old fortress, which makes this small piece of land rich in history.

Kastro: The remains of the first settlement of the island are located at the northernmost point of Skiathos. Today some churches and ruins of buildings are preserved along with the gates from the great wall, while efforts are being made to restore some houses. Make sure to follow the path leading down the mountain to the famous untouched beach of Kastro, however do know that comfy shoes will be needed as this can be a slightly challenging trek.

Alexandros Papadiamantis house: Nowadays, it has been converted into a museum and is located on the street of Papadiamantis. Visitors can see personal belongings of the great Greek writer as well as some of his manuscripts.

Evangelistria Church: Immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of Evangelistria Church, founded in 1794. It was here that the first Greek flag was built and blessed with the White cross on a blue background, therefore making the church a historical significance for Skiathos. Tucked away from the tourist trail, this sacred sanctuary offers a serene escape and a glimpse into the island’s past.

Plane spotting: One of the many things that Skiathos is famous for is the extremely low-landing performance of airplanes. Just a few meters above your head, this exciting experience can be quite breath-taking.

Dog shelter: Don’t forget to visit our beloved dog shelter, where you can take a puppy for a morning walk. Make a quick pit stop at a café, where the views of the island, along with a quick lunch break, will make your time worthwhile.

The most beautiful beaches of Skiathos:

Koukounaries Beach / Forest: Stretch your feet across the prestigious sands of Koukounaries beach. Indulge in the delectable cuisine offered by our esteemed beach bars. Lose yourself in the enchanting wilderness of Koukounaries forest, a hidden oasis brimming with winding trails. Follow the sounds of nature as you explore secret pathways and stumble upon hidden clearings teeming with wildlife.

Lalaria Beach: Discover the secluded paradise of Lalaria beach. Accessible only by boat, this hidden gem boasts idyllic shores, crystal-clear waters, and towering white cliffs, providing the perfect backdrop for a tranquil beach day.

Mandraki Forest / Beach: For a truly off-the-beaten-path experience, venture into the lesser-known Mandraki forest. Here, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the aroma of pine trees, calming streams, and secluded picnic spots. Visit the beaches of Elias, Xerxis and the secret beach of Krifi Ammos.

Agia Eleni Beach: Sandy beach suitable for families. It is fully organized with umbrellas and sunbeds and has a shop that offers coffee and snacks. This beach has the most glorious views of the sunset.

Vromolimnos Beach: Beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear waters. Fully equipped beach with a lively beach bar. This is a perfect get-away usually preferred by young people.

Xanemos Beach: Small and serene beach with black sand and deep water. Located just behind the airport, it is ideal for a peaceful day away from the business of other beaches. As you admire the landing and take-off of planes, enjoy a refreshing drink by the beach bar.

Megalos & Mikros Aselinos Beach: Enjoy the scenery of the forest and mountain trek as you drive to these two most cherished beaches, only situated a 16 min drive from one another. Megalos (large) Aselinos beach presents itself with an open-landscape background. Whether you are hungry or thirsty, the traditional taverna, located just on the beach itself, will assure you of great hospitality. Mikros Aselinos beach is more of a less-known treasure. Get captivated by mountain views as you make your way up. It is a quiet beach, making it ideal for those seeking peace and tranquility.

Agistros: One of the most beautiful beaches with golden sand and crystal-clear waters. Surrender to the sound of the waves as you lay back with a drink in your hand and allow yourself to have a lazy day. You deserve it!
